I have a confession to make: being active is incredibly new for me.

In middle school and high school I sort of dabbled in track, volleyball, and dance, never really finding something that suited my interest. When college rolled around, I spent so many of my nights working part time at Kendra Scott that I stopped working out altogether. When I created the blog, all my free time was geared towards studying or blogging, so I couldn’t even scrape up the time to sacrifice towards getting active.

But that all changed last summer. And because of that sudden transition, I can vouch for the fact that becoming active and staying fit will forever change your life. And it’s a decision worth making. Why? Personally speaking, after going from one extreme to another (working out never, to working out 4-5 times a week), staying fit and healthy is a natural confidence booster that affects not only your mood but also your work ethic, lifestyle choices, and self-image. And as for my health, in the past — I was sick about 4-5 times a year, but since I began my thorough workout regime last year, I have yet to catch a cold.

And of course, there’re the clothes! If you’ve seen me around any of the below studios or gyms, you probably know that I like to keep my workout gear polished, and minimal. Since I’m in workout clothes so much, keeping things chic, but still in-style, is super important to me. I love scavenging for good pieces based on the fit, quality, affordability and aesthetic. And that’s where Nordstrom comes into play. Zella is one of my favorite workout brands, being the best-priced designers for the highest-quality pieces. I’m smitten with their incredibly comfortable, slimming, and stretchy leggings, as well as a lot of their workout tops at Nordstrom. This top is a good throw-on for fall and winter active-wear, and these leggings are a no-brainer in my book. Adidas is also a runner-up as I’m obsessing over the color of the cutie hoodie. I brought these kicks to Paris with me as my travel companions, and I also love wearing a good pair of kicks like these at the gym.

Last, but certainly not least, I get a lot of questions on how I stay fit, so here’re the details:

My workout regime:

  • Cardio: Spin classes twice a week at Ride Indoor Cycling
  • Barre: Classes 1-2 times a week at Modfitness
  • Weight lifting at a gym once a week focusing on arms and upper body

My eating habits play a big roll in my figure; we found out this year that my mom and brother have serious gluten and dairy allergies and more than likely, I would develop them as well. This caused me to become incredibly conscious about going gluten light and dairy light (sad day), but has forever changed the way I feel. A lot of foods with gluten and dairy are processed and cutting them out is hard, but worth the fight, as I truly have never felt healthy.

Favorite places in Austin to find quick gluten and dairy-free options:

  • Coffee: Tocos Maple Latte at Juice Society and Mozarts Almond Milk Caramel Latte
  • Pizza: True Foods and Via 313 Gluten Free Pizzas (the best!)
  • Tacos: Whole Foods for their tortilla-less tacos (at the taco bar) and Tacodeli for their build-your-own tacos on corn

Hope this was helpful, happy Wednesday — friends! XOXO

Thank you, Nordstrom, for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

Working out is newish for me too. I was always at the gym growing up for gymnastics – 25 hour workout weeks. Then, I transitioned into cheer and had a built-in after school workout there. I hit the pause button for the first half of college, but I don’t kick myself for it as we spent so much time walking around campus. But, by senior year, I was ready to establish a real exercise routine in my life. I joined castle hill and found all of the things you said (increased self-image, confidence and energy) after doing cardio and barre classes. Now, I rotate my routine with 1 barre class, 2 cardio classes and running/walking in and outside throughout the week. Or, I’ll play tennis or bike outside on weekends for something more social.

I love Zella! And always eager to find things outside of Lulu and OV, even though I love both. And love you!

    Yes, very well written !!

  5. Carina

The sportive look is so cute. I go though periods with sport, either I work out a lot or not at all, which is so bad. I need an organised routine.

Love your blog! I was born and raised in Austin. I think it’s so funny you worked at Kendra Scott and I’ve never seen you wear it …although I’ve only followed you for a short time. Did you get totally burned out on it or is it just out of style? 🙂
