A New Series: Faith-Based Posts

As many of you know, earlier this year I introduced a faith component into blogging through my faith-based Instagram account @my_darling_diary – and it has fueled a world of purpose for me.

I have loved taking one giant leap and pursuing ministry, and now I stand amazed at God’s goodness — and how many of you have let me know that God has touched you through this account. This has fueled so much purpose in me, and has kept me grounded, balanced and at peace throughout 2018. Starting today, I will start posting a select message or video from @my_darling_diary here weekly in an effort to touch more lives. See below for how you can join our community of sisters. Love you gals!

Here’s what I did: I ordered a million books – I didn’t know what else to do. The Bible was too intimidating for a fairly new believer like myself, so Amazon’s shiny pages felt like a safe place. I was starving for something bigger, searching and stumbling through pages–those which outlined the character of Jesus while authoring the pursuit of peace. I had grown up in church my whole life, but seeking Him out in wisdom, knowledge, and devotionals, and wanting to know Him was different than a checklist on an Easter or Christmas Sunday.

This was new and it was exciting. My journey with books quickly built a little library in my own personal nook. It was just me and God and God and me – a relationship and a thirst for something new and a journey of salvation. It was a quest that begged me to ask myself challenging questions: If we never stop learning, what are we gaining? If we fill ourselves up with social media and “she has or he is,” how much are we actually growing … or are we just losing? Are we filling ourselves up with food that starves us or food that strengthens us? Scripture is the book of life – the end – but if you’re intimidated by the Bible (as I was too) – I personally started with novels and simple devotionals for transitioning into getting to know God’s character before moving to scripture.

So…we do this every season and it’s my favorite ❤️! I’m asking you – what are your favorite reads for fall and winter? Devotionals, novels, fiction, whatever – you name it below! I’m listing my favorite reads (and some of them I found from you girls):

1. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (novel)
2. Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
3. Jesus Calling by Sarah Young (devotional)
4. New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp (devotional)
5. Bridge to Haven by Francine Rivers

So happy for you! Your life will never be the same. God has blessed my husband and me so much. God does not promise us as a Christian everything will be perfect and peaceful but he does promise to always be with us. In fact, oftentimes Satan tries to destroy our relationship with God even more once we give our hearts and lives to Christ. I will be praying for you and your family Jessi. Bless you today and everyday on your journey with Christ.

Great post! I’m so excited for this, and I love hearing about your relationship with God. My favorite books so far come from Emily Ley and Stephanie Wilson’s Lipstick Gospel.

Great list! I recently saw a couple of quick devotional books called “10 minutes in the word”. There’s one for Psalms and another for Proverbs. Just glanced at them in a boutique but they look pretty down to earth. I’m planning to order them, will check out the ones on your list too!
